Rent the Runway Pop-Up
This pop-up embodies a RTR movie premier that is both fun and sophisticated. People usually associate movie premieres with glory, highlight moments, celebrities and so on, but it is usually exclusive. We saw an opportunity to give everyday people a chance to feel glamorous and special, while learning more about Rent the Runway. Because our main media revolved around the memory of a garment through videos, we felt a movie theatre context was perfect. Emphasizing the garment memories that are passed on in experiences, we introduce visitors to the positive side of renting in a subtle way.
This was a collaborative effort with Jiaqi Wang.

Experience 1: Photo Booth Experience
Using AR technology allows visitors to try on anything, reflecting Rent the Runway’s flexibility and unlimited options. This will be fun and exciting, similar to a red carpet at a movie premiere. Visitors will get to take away their photos, feeling like a movie star.

Experience 2: Garment Memory Movie
This experience focuses in on changing people’s mindset from materiality to the importance of experience. Based on the visitor’s choice, a 2-min movie of that garment’s life would be shown to highlight the many emotional experiences embedded.
Experience 3: Paper Dress Takeaway
These branded stickers with a discount are physical reminders of clothes visitors saw that they can take with them as they leave to encourage people to visit RTR’s website following their visit.
Exit
The outside curved digital screen wall would display animated clothes. This side faces restaurants and would be something to grab people’s attention to get a closer look.
